It’s Good To Meet You

Motherhood

Category

Prior to becoming a mum I had a successful career and a lovely house in the countryside with my husband and two dogs. So, when I fell pregnant in 2012 I felt blessed and believed that this was the cherry on my lovely cake called life.

But when my son was born in 2013 my cake kind of started to melt and disintegrate. I faced the biggest struggle of my life. I started to burn out and faced some dark times. This was made worse by the fact that I was a successful executive coach – oh the shame of not having it all together! I was also a perfectionist and happily slipped into martyr mode regularly. This was the perfect storm for me to struggle with motherhood.

The guilt I felt about not being enough was overwhelming. I tried desperately to mother like I didn’t work and work like I wasn’t a mother.

Trying to do it all perfectly was actually the perfect recipe for me becoming a S.O.S mum. Stressed out, overwhelmed and stuck! It was when my health reached a critical point that I knew something had to change.

As an achievement-orientated woman, I tried everything to help myself. I started with the outside stuff. I tried cutting down on my work. I also tried not working at all for a while (interestedly this didn’t help!). But the real change came when I started to change my life from the inside. The journey that I have been on has been life changing. Not just for me but for my family and those around me.

It was only when I started to share my journey with others that I realised I wasn’t alone. That so many other working mums like me were struggling. So, I felt compelled to share what I’ve learnt along the way, and this led to the birth of Wisdom For Working Mums.

Here you’ll find advice, information and inspiration to help you create a new approach to being a working mum. To support you in creating sustainable success for your family, work and life.

Wisdom for Working Mums isn’t about my wisdom. I don’t have all the answers and I still have tough days as a working mum. It’s about what I’ve learnt from some amazing people over the last few years. It’s about what I continue to apply and learn myself. It’s also about your own wisdom. It’s also about the collective wisdom that we all have as working mums (but that we might not know how to use).

My hope is that by creating a place where we can share and explore this wisdom we make our lives easier and more fulfilling. Hey – we might even make the world a better place along the way.
